Department of Medical Informatics was established in year 1993, although Medical Informatics as mandatory course for medical students was introduced in year 1979.
In year 1998 Prof. Mladen Petrovecki became head of the Department and organized scientific work and lectures.

Research fields of scientific interest are scientific and academic integrity, especially plagiarism; medical informatics, biostatistics and scientific methodology.
Scientific project "Prevalence, features and attitudes toward plagiarism in biomedical sciences" was successfully conducted at Department of Medical Informatics and was supported by Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, grant No. 0062044 and resulted with several publication.
Scientific work with students is very important part of our policy and it is organized in form of Journal Club "Science Trek Journal Club", a scientific group for lifelong education in the field of methodology of biomedical research, medical informatics and biostatistics.
